BPKS was registered as a voluntary organization with the Bangladesh Department of Social Services, Ministry of Social Welfare in 1988 (registration number GA 0128).

BPKS has been registered with the NGO Affairs Bureau under the Prime Minister's Office, Peoples' Republic of Bangladesh since 1990 (registration number FDO/R-362). This allows BPKS to receive aid from, and work with, foreign resources.
