Collaboration
in the NGO sector
|
|
| |
|
BPKS
has an established and is
continuously furthering its working relationships
with various non-government institutions
and departments in order to improve the situation of
disabled people in the
country. Recent examples of such collaboration include:
- Meetings and a round table with the National Democratic Institute for International Affairs (NDI) to ensure electoral access for PWDs
- A joint workshop with the national NGO Women for Women to ensure consideration of WWDs rights in the women's movement
BPKS also works to develop functional
relations and networks
with local hospitals
and medical and rehabilitation institutions in its working areas. For example, through building an effective working relationship with the
Society for Assistance
to Hearing Impaired Children
(SAHIC) Dhaka BPKS has been able to arrange hearing
tests and aids for its memebrs and to organize
Ear Nose and Throat (ENT) camps in its working areas. The DPOs
at the grassroots struggle
due to an acute shortage of
the financial resources they
need to manage their organization
and operate its programs.
This shortage of financial resources
is a result of an inability
to identify and mobilize
resources from within and outside
their community, and also a lack of skills in
identifiying potential local
partners and
developing appropriate
relations with them. Due to
this situation, BPKS has been collaborating with grassroots DPOs under
the PSID replication
project, providing support for:
1. Local
Resource Mobilization;
2. PSID replication/extension;
3. Collective action to
ensure disabled peoples'
needs and rights, and
to strengthen DPOs.
