The BPKS training section assists in the implementation of the PSID project and works to build the capacity of grassroots PWDs, disability workers and key staff members of organizations implementing the PSID approach. The training courses cover different development issues in order to help develop the leadership, management and organizational skills of PWDs and to work towards achieving their basic rights. Training is vital to increase the skills and knowledge of people with disabilities in Bangladesh and to raise awareness about disability issues to overcome the lack of understanding that exists about disability. Intellectual capacity building training is an ongoing
process under PSID, with
regular workshops on these
issues being held at the
field level.

For example, lobbying and advocacy training provides DPO leaders with a background on what regulations exist regarding persons with disabilities and how to go about approaching community leaders, schools and other individuals and institutions in their efforts to ensure equality and integration for PWDs. Program accelerating training teaches DPO members how they can become involved in income-generating activities (be it by themselves or with an established organization), where they can receive certain skills training and whom to approach for them. Localization of power deals with the systematic handing over of responsibility from BPKS to the individual DPOD and DPOs over the three-year project phase of PSID. Self-confidence training is an ongoing process under PSID, with regular workshops on these issues being held at the field level. As part of the training BPKS is developing a video on PWDs' self-determination, promoting the reality that PWDs can be responsible, participating members in society.
